Casey was raised in Jessie Lake in Itaska County. He played American Legion baseball at Deer River. He played college baseball for the University of Minnesota and signed to play professional baseball with the Minneapolis Millers. He managed, coached and played for teams in New Ulm, Sleepy Eye, Bird Island, Litchfield, Winsted and Howard Lake. He organized youth and Legion baseball in Watertown and also taught in St. Peter.
