Elmer Hlierlilnger

Our tribute for his funeral folder:

Our dad) was born in Crown, MN on Nov 23, 1924 and passed away at home on March 11, 2015 at the age of 90 years. He was preceded in death by his parents Carl and Ella (Stoeckel); his in-laws John and Louise (Bartz) Spier, four brothers – Harold, Clarence, Merle and Lawrence, one sister, Mabel, and his dear daughter-in-law, Sue.

Dad is survived by our mom, his loving wife of 67 years, Pat (Spier), their daughter and son-in-law, Diane & Chuck Henning; their son Greg, and their son and daughter-in-law Mike & Tracy. As well he is survived by their grandchildren John (Jenny), Eric, Chad (Becky), Sarah, Jenni, Charlie (Jen), Carl and Cassie; their great-grandchildren Jaylen, Shaina, Maddy, Sam, Will, and Clarence; his two sisters – Renata Emmans of Owatonna, and Hazel Lindgren of Blaine; their dear nieces, nephews and friends. He proudly served in the Army in WWII and was stationed in Germany.

Dad loved his family and was happiest when surrounded by all of us at family events. It often brought out the “imp” in him as he instigated lots of fun and laughs with the younger ones!!!

Dad taught us all the importance of doing work that was also a passion by his work at Grosslein Beverage of Anoka, first as a route deliveryman and then as a salesman. His colleagues and his customers were very important to him and he was proud of his years of service in the beer industry.

Dad LOVED baseball…first as a player for Crown and Big Lake and then as a manager for Big Lake and Anoka. In 2000, he was inducted as a member of the Minnesota Amateur Baseball Hall of Fame. So many of his former players have been counted as lifelong friends. Dad was an avid MN Twins and MN Gophers fan. He never missed a chance to cheer on the Twins in Florida. He and Mom shared with all of us the joy of March baseball and Spring Training. As recently as 10 days ago he made sure we all knew that he wished he could go to spring training “just one more time!”
