Dennis Roisum- GLENCOE


Minnesota Amateur Baseball Hall of Fame 1994

“Do the best you can every day”

Born in 1944.  Grew up on farm in rural Pennock, MN.  Middle of 3 offspring of Henry and May Roisum.  Played baseball, basketball and football at Kerkhoven High School(captain and all conference in all 3 sports)  Played Legion baseball also at Kerkhoven.  Went on to pitch for St.Cloud State Huskies in 1965 & 1966.

Played ‘town team’ baseball at Kerkhoven(manager at age 18), Norway Lake and Hector(once pitched 20 inning complete game). Played in several state tourneys (chosen to all tournament teams in 1968 & 71).

Was part of renovations of two ballparks.  Served on local baseball boards.  Served as tournament chairman of State Tournament held in Glencoe in 1996.

Dennis was a teacher and coach(baseball, basketball & football) for 34 years-- at Sartell, Hector, Glencoe, and Glencoe-Silver Lake(selected to GSL Hall of Fame in 2015).  Named to Minnesota State High School Baseball Coaches Association’s Hall of Fame in 2015 & ‘Retired Coach of Year’ by MSHSBCA in 2005.  Worked for MN Twins during 3 tryout camps at Metro Dome.

Hobbies: Watching grandkids activities, golf, travel(has seen game in every major league stadium and on every spring training field), umpiring baseball, officiating football (having worked state championship game in both football and baseball)& basketball(was awarded ‘Distinguished Service Award‘ for service as high school official in 2011 by MN High School Coaches Association), ‘working out’  and reading.

Volunteer Service:  McLeod County Food Shelf, Salvation Army, Habitat for Humanity, city of Glencoe(awarded ‘Volunteer of Year’ in 2016), and activities at Christ Lutheran Church.

Family:  Wife , Linda since 1967, daughters Laura(Steve)Mackenthun :& Mim(Bryce)Wendlandt.  Grandchildren: Grant, Clay, Paige, Ross, Tory & Bret.

Throughout summers in his life, Dennis Roisum has rarely missed a Sunday at the ballpark.

Dennis currently serves as a Board member of the Hall of Fame.
