John Jacob Oistad, the youngest of twelve children born to the late John and Albertina (Fredrickson) Oistad, was born on March 22, 1928, at Middle River, MN. It was said his parents had a full baseball team and three cheerleaders! He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and when John was in the sixth grade, the family moved to Karlstad where he grew to manhood and graduated from Karlstad High School in 1946. On Dec. 26, 1947, John was united in marriage to Maxine Carlson at Bethel Lutheran Church in Karlstad where he was a life-long member. He was first employed by John Sollund Plumbing in Karlstad and then by Carlson Oil Co. for many years. He later worked for Larry Steien Dynamic Homes for several years. John both played for and coached the Karlstad Pirates Amateur Baseball team for many years and also coached the Karlstad High School baseball team for 18 years. In 1990, the local high school baseball field was named the John Oistad Field in his honor. He was a huge Minnesota Twins baseball fan and was recognized by the Twins on their field on numerous occasions for his activities with Twins baseball clinics (14 of them!) In 1987 John was inducted into the Minnesota State Baseball Hall of Fame. In Aug. of 2015, he entered the Karlstad Healthcare Center where he passed away on Sat. morning, Aug. 26, 2017, at the age of 89 years, 5 months and 4 days.

He is survived by his wife, Maxine; son: John (Wendy), of Hoople ND; daughters: Susan (Harlen) Hokanson, of Browerville, MN and Carla (Jeff) Nyflot, of Karlstad; 7 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.
